Siri 47a: COVID-19 & LOCKDOWN @ SEATTLE

By March 10th we in Seattle knew the isolated case of the one man returning here from Wuhan, China with the COVID-19 virus would not be isolated and our governor quickly shut down the city with everyone told to stay in place; no one was on the roads, no one went to work, no restaurants, churches, mosques, or schools were open – everything was locked down with the hope the virus would not spread.

President Trump closed off travel to and from China thinking he had stopped the spread and he took no further action. We now know that had the federal government put the whole country on lock down in the beginning, it is possible 30,000 people who died from the virus in those early days could have been spared and maybe the 117,000 deaths, as of June 19, may have been cut to 0. Instead the virus spread so quickly that even by most governors closing down all activities across most of the 50 states, it was too late.

On May 31, in an attempt to restart the economy, most of the country, opened back up. Across the US we are now having a serious increase of COVID-19 cases with over 1000 deaths each day. We have a shortage of masks, gowns and ventilators with no end in sight for stopping the virus. Many are refusing to wear masks. Those in my age group, over 60, and especially with compromised immune systems, (I have had breast cancer twice), remain indoors waiting for a vaccine. We are not hopeful!

To get a factual look at the virus, I would suggest this website: CDC.gov/COVID-19
